PS5/PC Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered

Titan Books will collaborate with Marvel and Insomniac Games to publish two tie-in books for Insomniac’s upcoming Spider-Man, the first of which will be Spider-Man: Hostile Takeover, a prequel to the events of the game.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man will also join Titan’s long line of game-based art books with Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Art of the Game, written by Paul Davies.

Spider-Man: Hostile Takeover will hit shelves on Aug. 21, 2018, just a few weeks before the release of the game itself on Playstation 4 on Sept. 7. Spider-Man: The Art of the Game will follow on Sept. 11.

During our 114 question rapid-fire interview with creative director Brian Intihar, we asked him a question about Mary Jane. “Mary Jane is going to surprise a lot of people in this game. A lot of people. She is one of my favorite characters in the game,” Intihar said. The game is called Spider-Man, and while visiting Insomniac, he was who we talked about the most, but it’s clear that Mary Jane Watson is going to be a crucial part of both the gameplay and story.

In this Spider-Man, Mary Jane is an investigative journalist for The Daily Bugle. “When she was introduced in the ‘60s, it was not unusual for a character like that to be the love interest or the damsel in distress or other outdated roles. So, we thought, ‘What can we do to give her more agency?’” says Marvel and Spider-Man writer, and co-writer for the game, Christos Gage. She doesn’t wait around for Peter to put on his suit to come save her.....

Regarding her relationship with Peter, the two have been romantic in the past, and she is fully aware that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. The two met in high school and have been dating on and off for the past eight years....

Spider-Man schwingt im September mit neuem Kostüm, neuer Geschichte und coolem Kampfsystem in die Videospielwelt zurück – und ist dabei stärker als je zuvor.

Nach meinem Studiobesuch bei Insomniac Games, etlichen Interviews mit den Entwicklern und einer kurzen Anspielsession bin ich sehr angetan vom kommenden PS4-Blockbuster. Spider-Man macht sowohl spielerisch als auch erzählerisch einen wahnsinnig guten Eindruck. Meine Befürchtung, Marvel und Insomniac Games stampfen mit Spider-Man einen Batman: Arkham-Abklatsch in bunt aus dem Boden, hat sich verflüchtigt. Das Kampfsystem ist überraschend komplex und bietet etliche Möglichkeiten, den Verbrechern Manhattans das Handwerk zu legen. In den Prügeleinlagen glänzt Spidey als akrobatischer Turner: Der Held hat schon zu Beginn einiges auf dem Kasten und regt mit weiteren freischaltbaren Fähigkeiten zum Experimentieren an.

Hinzu kommen Gadgets, die Abwechslung in den Kampf bringen und etliche Kostüme mit schrulligen wie klassischen Designs, eigenen Werten und Special-Moves, sodass wir Spider-Man zusätzlich anpassen können. Geht die erzählerische Neuinterpretation auf und bieten die Hauptmissionen genügend Abwechslung, kann ich dem Spiel die bisher eher weniger spannend klingenden Nebenaktivitäten verzeihen. Am meisten Spaß hatte ich bei der Fortbewegung durch die Open World. Das Schwingen und Fassadenhochsprinten geht wunderbar einfach von der Hand und entfaltet eine nahezu berauschende Wirkung. Ich kann es kaum erwarten, mich erneut in die Straßen von Manhattan zu stürzen.

While Insomniac's Spider-Man is instantly recognizable as the classic character, there are actually many elements of his design that are unique to their version. In the video below, Art Director Jacinda Chew goes into the rationale behind the design, as well as gives insight into some of the smaller details and the tech behind making it work in the game.

• Spider-Man’s suit will have visible damage at certain points in the game and said damage will show up on every costume, not just the white spider one
  
  
• you can’t do manual tricks or poses in the air like in Spider-Man 2 but you can do cool things like web zip through a concrete pipe
  
  
• they will show new gameplay at E3 (duh)
