PS5/PC Spider-Man: Miles Morales

That is the case but it’s actually a bit of a masterstroke, as simply by virtue of all the skyscrapers using ray-tracing, so that they reflect everything else nearby, the game gains exactly the sort of, ‘Look! This is next gen!’ moment that we criticised the Xbox Series X for lacking.
... ...
That’s not a problem Spider-Man: Miles Morales suffers from though and this is not only one of the most satisfying story experiences we’ve had in an action game all year but a highly encouraging glimpse at the future of PlayStation 5 games, and next gen gaming in general.

As one of only a handful of launch PS5 games, the added benefits of native 4K resolution and ray tracing lighting effects provide a stunning take on this already beautiful cityscape. Sunlight cutting through the misty clouds and snow was unexpectedly breathtaking at the height of a swing in the early moments of my first playthrough, and the “Wow!” moments only continued from there.

And it’s an excellent way to break in your new PlayStation 5; it looks spectacular, loads fast, and makes fun use of the DualSense controller, the directional audio, and more. But regardless of which generation you play it on, it’s a worthy followup to one of the best superhero games ever made.

When swinging the DualSense adds another level of dynamism - you can feel some of the tension of the web in the adaptive trigger, and a whooshing throughout the rest of the pad. It's all a bit overblown but in an enjoyable way - like treating yourself to D-Box tickets at the local multiplex. If you can remember those.

Insomniac's second crack at Spider-Man retains the breathless energy of the original, but ends up a lot like Miles Morales himself - still fresh on its feet, a little awkward in places, but steadily growing into itself. It's a game that's full of character, and a tremendously likeable one it is too.

The one you've been waiting for. In traditional Linneman detail, John takes an extended look at Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, breaking down the technology and going in depth on the increase to detail, improved fidelity in character rendering, the improvements delivered by ray tracing and of course, fidelity 30fps vs performance 60fps mode comparisons.

Seeing as this is a PS5 game after all, it's also important to talk about all of the next-gen goodies. The big (and I can't stress this enough) thing that stands out to me way more than the visual upgrades is the load time situation: or, lack thereof. The SSD effect is real, with the game taking mere seconds to load up or fast travel. There were times in the original where it was sometimes quicker to manually zip to a location as to not force a load — but in Miles Morales, he literally walks out of a fast-travel point in about a second. I hope the entire generation is this fast.
