The game can be played with a pair of Joy-Con controllers, a single Joy-Con controller held horizontally, or a Pro Controller. Two players can also play in split-screen via the Wireless Play mode, but there’s one restriction you’ll have to keep in mind.
As reported by
Polygon, the option for each player to use a pair of Joy-Con controllers is greyed out. Your other option is for each player to use one Joy-Con controller – horizontally, or for each to sync their Pro Controllers.
It’s not entirely clear why Nintendo put this limitation in place, but it could be due to the Bluetooth bandwidth being used when the console is in tabletop mode. The Switch clearly supports simultaneous controllers to be connected, but the number, and features, vary from game to game.
