BOSS: Pteropus
HP: 66000 Recommended Level: 30
Pteropus is certainly a unique boss. The boss himself is actually composed of
a dozen or so bats, though they form Pteropus when combined, who has 66000 HP.
Pteropus is fast, strong, and very deadly, but the good news is that you
shouldn't have to see the boss in this form for that long. Pteropus only uses
physical attacks, and the only Artes he can use is Split.
When Pteropus uses Split, the boss will split into a group of Attack Bats
(8000 HP) and Magic Bats (6000 HP), all under the command of a Leader Bat
(24000 HP). The boss fight changes entirely now, because instead of focusing
on one target, you have to change your battle strategy to fend off a dozen
weaker targets.
The different bats will attack accordingly: the Leader Bat and Attack Bats all
use physical attacks, but the Magic Bats are a much bigger threat. They can
use Splash and Wind Blade, capable of tearing your party apart in an instant.
Pay attention to Magic Bats who are casting either spell and wait for the
incoming attack.
If you are caught in one of their Splash attacks, you may lose close to half
of your health (which is why I suggested that you equip the Aquamarine). If
you see a Magic Bat preparing a Magic Artes close by, use Free Run and attack
it to interrupt the attack. Otherwise, use Free Run to avoid the magic symbol
that appears under your feet during Splash. In this stage of the fight, Free
Run is your best friend.
It's pretty chaotic trying to find a specific target, so lock onto the nearest
target and go to work. If you can, though, try and go after the blue Magic
Bats before you focus on the red Attack Bats. They are all somewhat weak and
can be taken down in a few quick moments, so have all your party members
target different individuals to help cut the time down.
Sometimes it is tough to target the bats as Yuri, since they float so high in
the air. If physical attacks cannot reach the target, try using a projectile
Artes such as Azure Edge to knock the bat down to the ground, then follow up
with a sword combo. Crushing Eagle also works nicely, since it can hit a
number of targets in one shot.
Rita isn't a good choice, because you really don't need magic to take these
suckers down. Judith is always a great choice since she can target flying
enemies well, so the final party member can be a toss-up between Karol, Raven,
and Repede. As long at it is someone who can attack up close and personal.
This battle is so hectic, that you may not even have time to have Estelle use
Photon on the boss (Pteropus and the Attack/Magic Bats are weak against Light)
because she may be busy healing everyone.
If the Leader Bat uses Unite, the remaining bats will come together and
combine to form Pteropus again. At this point, you'll be back to targeting the
66000 HP pool instead of individual targets. You can end this boss fight in
two ways: either defeat Pteropus in this form by depleting all of his health,
or wait until he uses Split again and individually kill off all the bats,
including the Leader Bat. I am not sure which strategy would be easier.
