Dark Souls 3's incredible world and awe-inspiring weapon arts make it the fiercest installment yet.

If you're into Dark Souls games, I can tell you right now that Dark Souls 3 will probably be your game of the year. It's exactly what you want from a Dark Souls game. It's a lot of Dark Souls with a touch of Bloodborne, a dash of Dark Souls II and a hint of Demon's Souls. It's, admittedly, not a lot of anything new. But it's brilliant nonetheless.

Sprawling level design, thrilling combat, and masterful indirect storytelling make Dark Souls 3 the best Dark Souls yet.

Die Detailkritik ist in meinen Augen notwendig, um zu erklären, warum Dark Souls 3 nicht die Gefilde eines Meisterwerks erreicht. Warum es weniger innovativ ist als das grandiose Bloodborne. Aber dabei darf man nicht vergessen: Am Ende ist es trotzdem ein sehr, sehr intensives und gutes Spiel.

Dark Souls III is beautiful and terrifying all in one. Intense, atmospheric and so cruel. An essential game for RPG fans and one of the very best games of 2016 thus far.

No game series comes close to doing what Dark Souls does, and Dark Souls III has done it again.

It’s an undead favorite.

Dark Souls III is shorter than what we’ve come to expect, but it’s also more consolidated to give players exactly what they’re looking for without any unnecessary fluff.

If Dark Souls III truly is the last game for now, it makes perfect sense, since it's just as much of a love letter to fans as it is a culmination of the series. I may not have liked this iteration as much as the rest, but it's still streets ahead of most current action games and deserves a warm spot on your shelf by the bonfire.

Dark Souls III nails much of what made the first two in the series so special, but its world and enemies are unusually drab.

Those seeking something wholly new will be disappointed, but if you want more of the Dark Souls gameplay that you love, this is exactly what you’ve been asking for.

For now at least, it is time to bid farewell to this franchise, and Dark Souls 3 is as wonderful a send off as any we could have hoped for.

Hm, Reviews wie die von Gamestar und Gamespot beunruhigen mich etwas dahingehend, dass dem Teil offenbar das gewisse Etwas zum Meisterwerk fehlt.

Ist zwar meckern auf hohem Niveau, aber unterm Strich hätte ich eigentlich noch höhere Wertungen erwartet.

Ist zwar meckern auf hohem Niveau, aber unterm Strich hätte ich eigentlich noch höhere Wertungen erwartet.

Teil 1 und Demons Souls haben auch gesamt nur 89 von den Redakteuren bekommen, obwohl es nach Spieler Konsens eigentlich nah an der 100 liegen müsste. Teil 2 unverständlicherweise 91 und Bloodborne hat bisher mit 92 den höchsten Wertungsschnitt.

Aber im Grunde sieht man da recht gut, dass From Software altbewährte Qualität liefert.

In so many important ways — its world design, its pacing, the technology powering it — Dark Souls 3 falls short of the mark. Do you play for the joy and stress of exploring dangerous, intricately crafted places full of hidden elements and endless side paths? Das hat Vaati auch bereits in seinen Videos angekreidet, dass es nicht mehr so diesen WoW Effekt wie im Erstling oder in Bloodborne gibt, in dieser Hinsicht, wenn man bei denen plötzlich bemerkte wie geil die einzelnen Areale eigentlich miteinander verwoben wurden.

In welchem Video hat er das gesagt? Ich habe mir bisher nur sein Early Game Review angehört und dort hat er die Levelarchitektur noch gelobt. Sie sei sehr komplex und jedes Areal für sich wäre bereits eine Open World mit mehreren Wegen und Ebenen. Und gerade Bloodborne war doch in seiner Welt recht flach, quasi ohne Vertikalität und mit sehr vielen linearen Wegen abseits des Startgebiets.

Das "enthypt" mich jetzt schon etwas, gerade nach der herausragenden Welt von Bloodborne, muss ich meine Erwartungen bei DS3 wohl extrem nach unten schrauben.

Na das hoffentlich nicht. Das war für mich Dark Souls 2 und das befand sich für mich am akzeptablen Grenzwert. Besser darf es schon bitte sein.

Achso ja, wobei er da selbst gesagt hat, dass es hier nur um die ersten Areale geht. Später soll es laut anderer Meinungen wieder mehr Connections geben. Wobei in Sachen Weltdesign imo sowieso nur Dark Souls wirklich überragend war. Demon's Souls war ziemlich linear und hatte keine zusammenhängende Welt, Dark Souls 2 hatte eine schön zusammenhängende Welt, aber leider ein Weltdesign völlig ohne Konzept, Bloodborne war ziemlich linear mit vielen Bosssackgassen und Ports, obwohl die Welt eh schon recht klein war und bei Dark Souls 3 müssen wir mal sehen. Vom Anfang sind viele enttäuscht. Aber später soll es in vielen Punkten deutlich besser werden.

Liegt für mich abgeschlagen hinten den anderen Souls Titeln und Blodborne.

Ein Kumpel der sich den aktuellen Speedrun angesehen hat meinte das die Übergänge zu den einzelnen Level ziemlich gut gestaltet sein sollen. Inwiefern dann letzten Endes alles auch reconnected via Shortcuts is bei so einer Spielweise natürlich eher schlecht zu bewerten, aber er fand es zumindest um Welten besser als bei DS2. Die einzelnen Gebiete sollen auch durchweg wunderschön anzusehen sein.

Irgendwann ist der Lack halt auch ab. Nach zig Souls-Teilen und Ablegern, 3D- und 2D-Wannabes, exzessivem Lore-Zerpflücke und Gehype ist es mittlerweile 'ne Art von Routine geworden, für Entwickler als auch für Serien-Fans. Kann schon verstehen wenn FromSoftware in Zukunft auch mal was anderes machen will...

Ja, hier mal andere Meinungen zum Leveldesign:

Not as surprising as Demon’s Souls, not as timeless as Dark Souls, not as consistent as Dark Souls 2 and not as focused as Bloodborne. But still, Dark Souls 3 is a dyed in the wool Souls game. A gorgeously crafted culmination of design, fantasy and interactivity. And that’s what counts.

Daran orientiere ich mich dann mal. Und das ist für mich mehr als genug
