The Power of the Cloud:

The first demo showcased the Xbox One's cloud features as well as its overall hardware specs. A programmer at Microsoft took data from NASA to create an accurate view of the solar system that was running on the Xbox One. At one point, the demo focuses on the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, where it tracked the orbital paths of 30,000 asteroids. The Microsoft reps said that simply would not be possible with the current Xbox 360 hardware.

Then the demo flipped a switch and added 300,000 more asteroid orbital paths. These were created because the Xbox One tapped into a cloud server where that kind of data can be off loaded but still shown on the console. Microsoft is making the pitch that putting in game features such as enemy AI and large open worlds on a cloud server will increase the power that game developers can access with the Xbox One. Of course, the trade off is that games that use the cloud have to be connected to the Internet, even in single player mode.

What XBLA has done for indies shouldn’t be underestimated, says Capy co-founder Nathan Vella. He goes on to describe his contacts at Microsoft as “people who are as excited about your stuff as you are.”

“It sounds super-lame to say, but like you need people to believe in you, you need those champions, people who are going to fight for your vision for you, or else,” he tell us. “And we got that.”

Indeed, Vella says that the fact a game like Below was even shown on stage at E3 reflects how the industry is evolving, and that Microsoft is wary of that. “I really am super-appreciative of having people like our producers all the way to Phil [Spencer] fighting to announce our game that way, when it’s not the easiest sell. They showed our game on-stage, and our game is very… I mean it’s a fuckin’ sword-and-shield videogame, it’s gamey, it’s coming at it from a very different perspective and trying to speak to a subset of Xbox gamers. We’re not trying to make this crazy mass market game.”

The idea is that ten people in your family group can all share your games. Think of it like a loaning system, but you're not loaning anyone a phyiscal product. If you're in my family group, you can play my games, and vice versa.

“I think the policy makes sense,” Spencer said. “It’s not ten different people all playing the game concurrently, but when you think about a real usage scenario, and we thought about it around a family, and I know certain people will create a family group of people that aren’t all part of the same family, and I do think that’s an advantage, and people will use that. I saw it on NeoGAF instantly, the Xbox Family creation threads, where people said 'Hey be a part of my family.'”

“No birth certificates will need to be sent in!” Spencer said when I asked if the service required a blood test. “I do think that’s an advantage of the ecosystem that we have.”

So that answers one question: Microsoft doesn't seem to care whether or not the ten people in the group are actually family members. They can be friends, roommates, boyfriends, girlfriends, your dog's groomer… you pick ten people, and you share games with them.

BAM! Hätte ja nicht gedacht, dass sich der "Family Plan" tatsächlich in dieser Form bewahrheitet. Toll! :dhoch: Werde ich später auf jeden Fall noch in die Pro-Liste im ersten Post aufnehmen. :D

Denke MS will wirklich 100% aufs Internet setzen. Da musste man eben auch DRM Maßnahmen ergreifen um die eigentlich überflüssigen Game Disks zu entwerten. Nächste Gen wird es wohl wirklich nur noch Digital Only sein, sollte es eine Next-Gen geben.
