Neymar praised Italy star Mario Balotelli and the Brazilian talent admits “I’d love to become his friend.”

The pair will go head-to-head in the Confederations Cup on June 22 at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT) in Salvador.

“Balotelli is a great guy and a wonderful player,” said Neymar. “I often watch him on television with great pleasure.

“He is a real talent and has genuine quality. I hope to speak to him, maybe after Italy-Brazil. I’d love to become his friend.

“I can’t help but wish him all the best, except for in the game against us, of course...”

The global superstars are of a similar age, as Balotelli is 22 and new Barcelona signing Neymar just 21.

Balotelli visits Salvador fans

The Italy team were advised to stay in their hotel in Salvador, but Mario Balotelli visited the favelas. “I am not afraid.”

Huge protests around Brazil have caused concern around the Confederations Cup and Coach Cesare Prandelli confirmed the Azzurri were told to stay in their hotel complex ahead of Saturday’s game with the hosts.

However, Balotelli insisted on going for a walk around Salvador de Bahia, at times with girlfriend Fanny Neguesha.

“Salvador!! I look like a person from Bahia!!!” he wrote on his Twitter account.

Prandelli also revealed the Milan striker is involved in a charity to help the Mata Escura favela and had already visited this area when he was 17.

Balotelli stopped traffic and was mobbed by fans looking for autographs as he wandered around the Brazilian city.

“It’s all calm, I am not afraid. What am I scared of? Only journalists.”

The Press reportedly struggled to keep up with him on this jaunt and so SuperMario mocked them for their lack of fitness.

Italy play Brazil in Salvador on Saturday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

After reports suggest Milan turned down a Real Madrid offer for Mario Balotelli, his agent warns “sooner or later everyone is on the market.”

The striker only made the move to San Siro from Manchester City in January for €20m (£17.6m).

According to the Corriere dello Sport, new Real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti ordered his club to make a huge offer in order to tempt SuperMario to La Liga.

However, the Rossoneri assured he is absolutely not for sale, nor is there any buy-out clause in his contract.

“Will Balotelli be sold? No, for the moment he won’t go, but in football those who are not for sale sooner or later go on the market,” agent Mino Raiola told the Corriere dello Sport.

“Milan have an important project in place with Mario and he is very happy here. You can be sure he won’t move for now, but tomorrow... I don’t know.

“It is very tough for Serie A to hold on to top players right now, as their revenue is only a third of what English or Spanish clubs make.”
