SWI The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

Für mich waren A Link to the Past und Super Mario World mit Sicherheit die prägendsten Spiele meiner Zockerkarriere.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening remake for the Switch improves most of the flaws from the original game while maintaining (or enhancing) everything that makes Link's Game Boy adventure a classic. Its shiny new coat of paint suits it well, even if slowdown issues pop up from time to time. A few hours of play is all it takes to remind you why Zelda fans love Link's Awakening so very much.

Daily Star - 5 / 5 stars
It is a must-have for any Zelda fan, and so should take its place as a console seller for the Nintendo Switch.

Forbes - 10 / 10
Overall, this is a excellent remake of an already faultless Zelda game.

GamesBeat - 95 / 100
When I go to give Link’s Awakening to someone else, would I recommend this version? Is this the game I want my kids to play? And yes. It is. Absolutely. Because the truth is that it does recapture its old magic. It’s just not the time machine that I thought it could be.

JVL - French - 19 / 20
An indispensable addition to Nintendo Switch

IGN - 9.4 / 10
Updating the look but never losing the feel of the original, Link's Awakening is a masterclass in remaking a classic.

Hobby Consolas - Spanish - 92 / 100
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is the definitive edition of a classic: a renewal and improvement in every way, but always respectful with the source material, that manages to evoke the same feelings we felt 26 years ago.

We Got This Covered - 4.5 / 5 stars
In an era where Breath of the Wild reigns supreme, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening proves that there's still room for the tried-and-tested designs of yesteryear. It's far from innovative, but it has the undeniable allure of familiarity on its side.

Gameblog - French - 9 / 10
The Legend of Zelda : Link's Awakening was a treasure on Game Boy. Is still is with this version, but this time it's really good-looking, irresistibly cute. Even if there are some frame rate hiccups, if you're in possession of a Nintendo Switch, don't hesitate one second and go (re)discover one the best episodes of the entire saga.

Destructoid - 9 / 10
Slight gripes with the new engine and the old source aside, this is still Link's Awakening: one of the best Zelda games to date. Although I don't think I'm going to rotate the DX version out of my yearly Zelda replay sessions, I'll definitely be working the Switch remake in.

Nintendo Life - 9 / 10
This beautiful Switch remake rebuilds all of this from the ground up in fine style. It adds modern conveniences, a dungeon creator, amiibo support and lots of little quality of life improvements whilst infusing every single square inch of Koholint – every secret passage, Piranha, Pokey and Pig Warrior – with a level of detail and depth that totally reinvigorates both its timeless story and classic Zelda gameplay for a whole new generation of gamers.

RPG Site - 9 / 10
Proof that traditional Zelda is just as essential now as it was back in 1993.

Game Informer - 9 / 10
Link's Awakening was home to some of the best classic-era dungeon designs and bosses in the series, and this remake is a reminder of (or introduction to) its legacy

GamesRadar+ - 4.5 / 5 stars
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening manages to feel new, but still maintain the essence of the amazing original. This is peak old-school Zelda, and it's never looked better.

God is a Geek - 9 / 10
Whether you're a new or old player, Link's Awakening remains is hugely compelling and is another Switch must-have.

IGN Spain - Spanish - 9 / 10
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening has nothing to envy to some current RPGs. We could complain that it is the original with few ornaments and novelties, but the essence is so deep, that it is much better that way.

Post Arcade (National Post) - 9 / 10
Nintendo's updated take on a quarter-century-old classic is made to be enjoyed by all generations equally

AusGamers - 9 / 10
In the end, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remade and rebuilt for the Nintendo Switch is downright delightful. A memorable return to the stunning Koholint Island, and for newcomers to experience a journey they’ll savour for years to come. The Switch just got its second must-play Zelda.

TrueGaming - Arabic - 9 / 10
A classic game that should not be missed by any adventure gamer on the Nintendo Switch

Cerealkillerz - German - 8.9 / 10
Disappointing chamber dungeon building aside, TLOZ Link's Awakening for Switch is the best version you can play right now. The updated animations are somewhat cutesy, but the improved controls, which cut out annoying item switching, should be the biggest selling point for newbies and hardcore fans alike.

PowerUp! - 8.8 / 10
Playing Link’s Awakening is so simple that anyone can do it and everyone SHOULD do it. It’s that good.

Nexus - 8.8 / 10
Link's Awakening has definitely changed, especially the outstanding visuals and impactful audio, but it stays very true to its ancestor that introduced Zelda games to a handheld device all those years ago.

Everyeye.it - Italian - 8.8 / 10
Although it does not hide its age, this impressive remake could awaken the Hero within you.

Press Start - 8.5 / 10
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is another must-play Nintendo Switch game. It still stands the test of time and in no way feels outdated, which is impressive for a 20 year old game. Don't let performance issues and a high price point stop you from playing this absolute classic.

NintendoWorldReport - 8.5 / 10
The selection of smart fixes makes the game less of a grind and mostly an experience that keeps on trucking. While I don't think much of the Chamber Dungeons and other added trinkets, the refinements made to the overall flow make the journey worth it. For newcomers or Zelda veterans, Link's Awakening is a hoot from beginning to end.

Stevivor - 8.5 / 10
Despite being over a quarter of a century old, the gameplay holds up remarkably well, especially the short and sweet dungeons and delectable puzzles. It’s one of the shorter Zelda games, clocking in at 8-10 hours, but it’s quality over quantity with a relaxing and familiar The Legend of Zelda jaunt.

Wccftech - 8.5 / 10
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening looks gorgeous, sounds beautiful, and tells a twee and compelling tale. While the game can be played through in around ten hours if you know what you're doing in advance, new players will find a lengthy and engaging Zelda game to love. Whether it's your first time playing Link's Awakening or your dozenth, you will still find a gripping Switch game that you'll remember for another twenty years.

COGconnected - 85 / 100
Putting aside the gorgeous graphics, the obtuse level design, and the various modern touches, Link’s Awakening is still an exceptional Zelda game.

Critical Hit - 8.5 / 10
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a loving remake of a decades-old game remake with just enough modern touches to make it worth playing again. Graphical overhaul aside, it's perhaps a little too faithful to the original, while additions like the dungeon-builder are a bust. Newcomers get to experience one of the quirkiest games in the series, but for those who've played through it multiple times, there's little reason to play other than nostalgia or adoration - both of which are perfectly good excuses to return to Koholint.

Nintendo Enthusiast - 8.5 / 10
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Switch completely faithfully updates the Game Boy classic for modern audiences, and Zelda fans would be out of their minds not to play it.

IGN Italy - Italian - 8.5 / 10
Link's Awakening still is one of the most interesting Zelda games, even with all its limitations and semplifications.

The Games Machine - Italian - 8.5 / 10
Despite some uncertainty regarding the framerate The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is an excellent remake, which enhances the original experience in every way and makes it modern thanks to a very valuable series of improvements.

GamePro - German - 85 / 100
Beautiful and carefully adapted remake of a playfully timeless classic, whose age only shows at a few points.

Video Chums - 8.1 / 10
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was a wonderful game when it first released and this new Switch version may not deviate much from the original but it definitely looks and sounds great.

WellPlayed - 8 / 10
Link's Awakening successfully captures the brilliance of the 1993 classic and presents it in a way that will please most

FNintendo - Portuguese - 8 / 10
Link's Awakening returns, this time under the guise of a marvelous-looking game for the Nintendo Switch with plenty of new content, a very improved item system that brings its gameplay to our days, and a higher difficulty level that does wonders for its level of challenge. The new Chamber Dungeon component ends up delivering less than it promised but the overall experience is not affected and this new version of Link's Awakening instantly becomes a new classic and the ultimate incarnation of one of Zelda's most beloved games.

CGMagazine - 8 / 10
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening fits right at home on the Switch, feeling like a fresh title despite being over twenty years old

EGM - 8 / 10
The remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is stuck between two places—the past and the present. Chances are that you've already made up your mind about whether or not to play it. It's a classic Zelda game given a second chance with a striking visual language and evocative, haunting musical reinterpretations. Making the jump from the Game Boy to the Switch means that you'll spend a lot less time changing items in the menu and much more time appreciating the meticulous clockwork of Koholint Island's challenges.

TheSixthAxis - 8 / 10
With a quirkiness to it that stands out from the rest of the series, Link's Awakening still holds up beautifully well as a modern 2D Zelda game. Outside of some nagging performance issues, Link's Awakening is a wonderful remake of a Game Boy classic.

VG247 - 4 / 5 stars
With a gorgeous presentation and smart and minimalist tweaks, it’s as charming and enjoyable now as it was in the nineties.

Metro GameCentral - 8 / 10
The lack of any meaningful additions is a surprise, but it only underlines what a fantastic game the Game Boy original was, in what is still a classic Zelda title that thoroughly deserves the star treatment.

Twinfinite - 4 / 5
This remake is absolutely charming, stunning, and visually striking, making it one of the prettiest Switch games out there.

Screen Rant - 4 / 5 stars
This is a remake of one of the best Game Boy titles and you shouldn't expect much more than that.

GameSpot - 8 / 10
Link's Awakening on Nintendo Switch is a smart remake that enhances the spirit of the original while upholding the things that made it a classic in the first place.

Eurogamer - Essential
A masterly remake that preserves Koholint Island for a new generation.

Polygon - Unscored
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is the perfect Zelda for younger fans

No Nintendo remake has ever combined the beautiful and the familiar like this.

Was heißt denn bei Opencritic eigentlich immer XX % recommended?

How is the Critics Recommendation percentage calculated?

This metric is calculated by taking the overall recommendation percentage of all reviews with verdicts. A review is considered to be recommended if one of the following has occured:

  • A critic specified they would recommend the game to general gamers when uploading their review metadata to OpenCritic's content management system (CMS).
  • For numeric reviews written by top critics, publications may elect to set their own threshhold for what is and isn't recommended. For publications that have not made an election, the threshhold is set to the publication's median review score. Reviews at or above this threshhold are considered recommended.
  • Non-numeric reviews written by top critics that have a clear verdict and verdict system are also included when recommended. For example, Eurogamer (Recommended, Essential), AngryCentaurGaming (Buy), and GameXplain (Liked-a-lot, Loved) have their reviews included in this metric

:gerri:
