Scorn is an atmospheric first person horror adventure game set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and somber tapestry. It is designed around an idea of "being thrown into the world". Isolated and lost inside this dream-like world you will explore different interconnected regions in a non-linear fashion. The unsettling environment is a character itself. Every location contains its own theme (story), puzzles and characters that are integral in creating a cohesive lived in world. Throughout the game you will open up new areas, acquire different skill sets, weapons, various items and try to comprehend the sights presented to you.

ja, ist natürlich nur an seinen stil angelehnt. :D wobei ich da auch sehr viel von zdzislaw beksinski sehe. ist halt nur nicht so bekannt wie giger.

For the past two years, our team has been working hard on the development of Scorn. Our studio has grown to over 20 people and we have entered the financial partnership with Humble Bundle, which helped us immensely at the time.

Despite all the struggles we’ve been through since we began working on the Scorn, we are still determined to keep the project alive. We have never compromised on the quality of the game, and we’re not planning to do so now.

We are getting close to completion of Part 1, but we’re not really satisfied with all the aspects of the game. After much internal deliberation, we decided that it would be the best to try and acquire additional resources, taking more time to polish the game, rather than releasing something we’re not entirely happy with.

With all that said, we are pushing the release date for 2018. More development time would give us an opportunity to expand the scope and polish the game the way we really want to. And in order to make all this happen, we decided to organize a Kickstarter campaign to acquire the necessary resources.

Haben einen größeren Investor ans Land gezogen, Scorn wird deswegen größer als erst geplant und verschiebt sich erstmal auf unbestimmte Zeit

The Good

We managed to sign an excellent deal with the great investment fund and acquire additional funds for the development of Scorn.

The fund in question is very hands-off regarding creative elements of the game, and that was the primary reason why we decided to go through with the deal. Creative freedom is the most important aspect for us as a studio. From the very beginning of the project we wanted to create a game without too many compromises, and that indeed isn't an easy task.

With this new deal, we are in an excellent position to create much better quality, fully realized game.

A single compromise we did make was to split the game into two parts. Cynical people were saying we are just doing that to make more money, but it couldn't be further from the truth.It was a necessity if we wanted to finish the game with this kind of high fidelity, scope, and modest budget, which partly came from our backers.

The newly acquired resources will enable us to the develop Scorn as intended from start to finish, the whole experience, not just the first part.

There's been a lot of debate recently with many "not-so-positive" stories about the quality of indie games, especially those funded through the Kickstarter. It's somewhat understandable why these kinds of things happen, as game development takes a lot of dedication, perseverance and stamina. Since we started this project our top priority was to create the best game possible. During this time, we have faced many hardships, but our goal remained the same. We have never faltered, and we will stick to our motto, making the best game possible. We will never release something subpar and call it a day.

The Bad

Making the whole game is going to take more time. Scorn Part 1 of 2: Dasein will not be released this year.

We know that some of you are going to be understandably disappointed as you were eagerly awaiting Scorn Part 1 of 2: Dasein in October 2018. And although we understand that, we still think that this new deal is the best course of action for us and ultimately the players as it will enable us to develop a better game. The upside is that you won’t be left waiting on a cliffhanger for part 2.

Now you will experience the game from start to finish, as intended, but at a later date that is yet to be announced.

Sieht halt schon ziemlich geil aus. Hab aber leider die Angst, dass das ein selbes Disaster wie Agony werden könnte.
 
Einfach den Failcheck machen. Hatte das Studio bereits Projekte vor dieser Ankündigung? Nein. Waren die Entwickler bereits an anderen Videospielen beteiligt? Nein. Gibt es die schützende Hand eines Publishers, der für die Qualitätssicherung sorgen wird? Jein. Sieht ähnlich gefährlich wie bei Agony aus, aber gibt auch immer wieder positive Ausnahmen.
