Rumor has it that the title role in the big screen version of Lobo may be played by a genre film and cartoon voice-over veteran.

Comics2Film at Mania.com says it has spoken with a source close to the production about how the DC Comics intergalactic bounty hunter will be brought to life in the Guy Ritchie-directed movie. "Ultimately regardless of whether you do it all CG or its a guy in a suit, with CG, you'll still end up doing a lot of CG animation," the source told the site. "So do you need a celebrity? Do you need a name or do you just get someone who is good and who's gonna nail it?"

In what would be a move that, if true, would be reminiscent of Ron Perlman's casting as Hellboy, Mania's source claims that "a name that's come up frequently in meetings [to play Lobo] is Clancy Brown." Brown may be best known for playing "The Krugan" in Highlander, as well as for his roles in The Shawshank Redemption, Pathfinder, Starship Troopers, ER, and as "Brother Justin Crowe" in Carnivale. He will next be seen in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Brown voiced Lex Luthor in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Justice League, Superman, and The Batman (where he also voiced Mister Freeze). He has also lent his voice to numerous other animated projects, including SpongeBob SquarePants (as Mr. Krabs), The Spectacular Spider-Man, Wolverine and the X-Men (as Mister Sinister), Avatar: The Last Airbender (as Long Feng), and Gargoyles.

Filmstarts – Im September wurde bekannt, dass Guy Ritchie ("Rock N Rolla", "Snatch") für Warner Bros. die DC Comicverfilmung "Lobo" realisieren wird (Filmstarts berichtete). Nun berichtet die Los Angeles Times, dass der britische Erfolgsregisseur dem Projekt eine Abfuhr erteilt, da er möglichst schnell das Sequel zu "Sherlock Holmes" auf die Leinwand bringen soll. Dazu der Produzent der beiden Projekte Joel Silver: "Ich denke nicht, dass er "Lobo" jetzt realisieren wird", denn "das Studio will, dass Guy und ich uns auf den weiteren "Sherlock Holmes" konzentrieren". Laut Silver soll nun für die Comicverfilmung ein anderer Regisseur gefunden werden.

Für das "Sherlock Holmes"-Sequel hätten sie bereits "einige Ideen und gute Storyansätze" gefunden. Silver geht davon aus, dass der gesamte Originalcast wieder dabei sein wird: "Downey mochte die Erfahrung Sherlock zu spielen und würde ihn gerne wieder darstellen". Der Produzent möchte ihn, Jude Law ("Hautnah", "Rage") und die anderen wieder in ihren Rollen sehen.

Auch zu dem Gerücht, Brad Pitt würde in dem Sequel als Professor Moriarty zu sehen sein, nahm Silver Stellung: "Gut, wir haben darüber gesprochen, aber derzeit wissen wir noch nicht, was wir machen werden. Wir werden sehen was passiert." Die Figur des Professor Moriarty ist ein gefährlicher Gegner von Sherlock Holmes und wird in den Romanen von diesem als ""Napoleon des Verbrechens" bezeichnet.

Im Januar wurde bereits bekannt, dass Hauptdarsteller Robert Downey Jr. aufgrund von "Sherlock Holmes 2" dem Sci-Fi-Western "Cowboys And Aliens" eine Abfuhr erteilen musste. Die Dreharbeiten zu dem Sequel sollen im Juni beginnen. Morgen startet "Sherlock Holmes" in den deutschen Kinos.

Brad Peyton to Direct DC Comics' Lobo

Warner Bros. has set Journey 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton for their DC Comics adaptation, Lobo, Deadline reports.

Created in 1984 by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo is a Czarnian (originally Velorpian) bounty hunter who, as a nearly indestructible anti-hero, drives a space-faring motorcycle across the cosmos in search of his next target.

When Guy Ritchie was attached to the project in 2009, Don Payne had written the most recent draft of the script and had Lobo tracking four alien fugitives to Earth and teaming with a small town girl to track them down.

Though there's no hint at casting as of yet (and, no matter what, the character is likely going to employ heavy makeup and CGI to be realized for the screen), Jeffrey Dean Morgan told Superhero Hype some time back that playing the ultimate bastich would be one his dream roles.

Prolific action director Michael Bay is being eyed to direct his first-ever superhero movie, “Lobo,” which DC and Warner Bros. hope could be their answer to “Deadpool,” multiple insiders told TheWrap exclusively.

Bay met with DC to discuss the project and gave some notes that “Wonder Woman” writer Jason Fuchs will incorporate into a rewrite, the insiders told TheWrap.
