Universal Studios have cancelled the upcoming Halo movie, originally scheduled for release in 2008. Their main reason is the rising costs, rumored to be almost $200 million at this point. In addition, Microsoft wanted 10% of the revenue, which made the stakes even higher for Universal Studios and Fox, who were co-financing the movie.

Universal and Fox studios also expressed their doubt in the young director, South African Neil Bloomkamp, who has never done a feature film before. So far it’s only been one short film, in addition to being a 3D animator on Smallville and Stargate. The producers however, including Peter Jackson, are confident in Neil, and say that they will be looking for other production companies interested in doing the movie. Microsoft is said to be in talks with other distribution companies already.

Mann das wäre soooo geil wenn der Film wirklich noch kommen würde! Ich würd mir extra ein Chief-Kostüm kaufen und damit den ganzen Abend in der Stadt rumrennen! :lol:

Nachdem sich Peter Jackson mehr oder weniger offiziell vom Halo-Film als Projekt zurückgezogen hat, scheint der Master Chief wohl nicht mehr auf die große Leinwand zu kommen – oder doch? Gerüchten zu folge soll niemand geringeres als Steven Spielberg als Produzent eines neuen Halo-Films tätig werden.

Nach Angaben der Filmseite IESB wollen unbekannte Quellen dies bestätigt haben. Spielberg sei aus dem Häuschen gewesen, als er Stuart Beatties Screenplay gesehen habe. Wir erinnern uns: Darin geht es um einen Jungen namens John und um fiese Aliens. Spielberg selbst soll jedoch nicht als Director des Films tätig sein, sondern nur als Produzent. Wer den noch offenen Posten bekleiden soll, bleibt vorerst ein Geheimnis der Gerüchteküche.

We're glad there's still a lot of enthusiasm in the entertainment industry surrounding the idea of a Halo movie. That said, the Halo feature film remains on hold as we focus on projects like Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach.

Hoffentlich wird ODST eine Menge Stücke verkaufen und Reach wieder ein Kracher, weil dann MUSS ein Halo Film kommen. Ich mein der Erfolg ist da doch schon vorprogrammiert? Sieht man ja schon an den Halo Spielen und den Verkaufszahlen…
 
Würde mich nach wie vor auch riesig über nen gut gemachten Halo Film freuen. Mal abgesehen davon dass SciFi Filme die letzten Jahre Mangelware sind gehört Halo schon zur Pop Kultur und hat nen Film verdient. Gerade gestern wieder bei 30 Rock wurde Halo erwähnt.
 
Beruhend auf der Tatsache, dass die Verfilmung von Spielen (oder die Verspielung von Filmen) in der Regel immer scheisse sind könnt ich auch gut drauf verzichten :grins:
 
Es gibt ein paar Ausnahmen wie ich finde!

Und bei Halo kann eigentlich nicht viel schief gehen, so lange sie das Gesicht vom Chief NIE zeigen werden!
 
The Halo Movie Will Happen

It's been a while since we've heard anything about the possible Halo movie, but now comes word from Frank O'Connor, Franchise Development Director, 343 Industries, Microsoft Game Studios, who says that the movie will happen eventually.

O'Connor talked about the possibility at the MI6 Conference in San Francisco last week.

"We're going to make a movie when the time is right," he said. "We own the IP. If we want to make a movie, the scale of all the other stuff that we do changes dramatically. We make tens and tens of millions of dollars on ancillary stuff, toys, apparel, music and publishing. If we do a movie all of that will grow exponentially. We have some numbers if we do a movie, but it changes everything. It also changes our target and age demographic."

The Halo movie almost moved forward with District 9's director Neill Blomkamp and executive producer Peter Jackson back in 2006. Stuart Beattie later wrote a film adaptation of "The Fall of Reach," complete with concept art.
