Detroit: Become Human lead writer: 'This the most collaborative thing David Cage has ever done'
It’s a hugely collaborative story

Quantic Dream’s founder, David Cage, may have been central to Detroit: Become Human’s creation, but the tale of finding humanity within androids turning ‘deviant’ was a team effort.

“David was very keen on making this the most collaborative – and interactive – thing he’s ever done,” explains Adam, who previously worked as a television writer, which also included producing pilots for the BBC. “I was brought in to help him finish and elaborate on the story.

“At the same time, lots of the team pitched in. For example, the composers of the game had a huge input in working on the emotional grammar of the scene, and how the scene could be played out.

"Don't worry folks, it's not just David this time!"

Quantic Dream has delivered its best game yet with Detroit: Become Human. John dissects the title's technology, realising that this game is like an anti-open world showcase - if developers weren't concentrating on ever-bigger environments and focused on smaller, tighter experiences, what would we gain? The answer is simple: extreme fidelity and detail. At its best, Detroit is simply phenomenal.

Zwischen 80-85 Prozent war auch so meine Erwartung. Man kann also wohl bedenkenlos zugreifen

Easy Allies:
With complex characters and an impressive branching plot that emphasizes choice and consequence, Detroit: Become Human keeps you invested in your own story and makes you eager to see what other possibilities you might have missed. It’s Quantic Dream’s strongest interactive tale so far.

IGN:
Detroit: Become Human is a poignantly pulpy interactive sci-fi drama where your choices can impact events to a greater and more satisfying degree than in most games of this type. Though I wish its story had been handled with a softer touch, especially considering the subtlety that can be conveyed through its tech and performances, its well-written and acted central trio were vital enough to me that I found myself feeling genuine distress when they were in danger and a sense of victory when they triumphed. Most importantly, Detroit offers a multitude of transparent branching paths that entice further playthroughs, and choices have a permanence that raise the stakes throughout.

Gamespot:
Detroit is well worth playing, but it struggles to strike the right balance between giving you freedom of choice and reminding you that it's all a game in the end. Cage and Quantic Dream are getting closer to nailing this style of game, but it's obvious that there's still room to grow.

Kotaku:
Detroit tells a story of robots who look and act relatively human, making their way through a nonsense world where everyone, even the humans, doesn't actually look or act human at all. It's a fragmented radio broadcast from a valley within the uncanny valley, so many layers deep in unreality that it could never hope to make it out intact.

Eurogamer:
Its big themes are glibly handled, though this is still Quantic Dream's most credible and satisfying interactive yarn by far.

Gameinformer:
Despite some shortcomings in its dialogue and plot, Detroit: Become Human tells an engaging story about humanity and technology while allowing your choices to shape the experience.
