PS4 Version zum Start bestätigt
https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2016/07/20/classic-fps-system-shock-is-being-remade-for-ps4/

Some of you might have heard about our Kickstarter that we started a few weeks ago. It’s still early in the project, but there was such a huge demand for a PS4 version that we immediately did what we could to make that happen. Today, I am incredibly proud to announce that System Shock will be coming to PS4 around Q1 2018. We’re excited to be working with Sony on this and can’t wait to see what all of you think of the game!

war übrigens kein stretch goal der kickstarter kampagne.

Entwicklung wird für unbestimmte Zeit pausiert

In March of 2016, Nightdive Studios released our video of our vision of System Shock Remastered. Done in Unity it was an immediate hit with almost a half million views on YouTube. In June of 2016 we launched a Kickstarter campaign to make the vision into a reality. It was tremendously successful with over 21,000 backers contributing over $1.3 million to the campaign. We put together a development team and began working on the game. But along the way something happened.

Maybe we were too successful. Maybe we lost our focus. The vision began to change. We moved from a Remaster to a completely new game. We shifted engines from Unity to Unreal, a choice that we don’t regret and one that has worked out for us. With the switch we began envisioning doing more, but straying from the core concepts of the original title.

As our concept grew and as our team changed, so did the scope of what we were doing and with that the budget for the game. As the budget grew, we began a long series of conversations with potential publishing partners. The more that we worked on the game, the more that we wanted to do, and the further we got from the original concepts that made System Shock so great.

Ultimately the responsibility for the decisions rests with me. As the CEO and founder of Nightdive Studios, a company that was built on the restoration of the System Shock franchise, I let things get out of control. I can tell you that I did it for all the right reasons, that I was totally committed to making a great game, but it has become clear to me that we took the wrong path, that we turned our backs on the very people who made this possible, our Kickstarter backers.

I have put the team on a hiatus while we reassess our path so that we can return to our vision. We are taking a break, but NOT ending the project. Please accept my personal assurance that we will be back and stronger than ever. System Shock is going to be completed and all of our promises fulfilled.

The System Shock remake is still on the horizon, but not as quickly as fans originally anticipated. After announcing a hiatus on production of the game back in February, Nightdive Studios has now revealed to PC Gamer that System Shock will be released in early 2020.

Nightdive created a Kickstarter campaign in June 2016 to give players a “faithful reboot” of the original 1994 game. The successful campaign raised $1.3 million backed by over 21,000 people. It was the backers of the Kickstarter campaign that convinced Nightdive that the remake was headed in the wrong direction. A direct reboot of the original System Shock was not what they were creating. Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick stated,

"We understood based on the backer feedback, especially, that we weren’t going in the right direction with the game, what we promised to them. That’s what really caused the shift in what we’re doing now, which is going back to what we’d established and represented with the Unity demo."

Not too long after the Kickstarter campaign, Nightdive switched from Unity to Unreal Engine even after releasing a demo of the remastered game on Unity. Moving forward, business development director Larry Kuperman maintains that two extra years of development will not put Nightdive in financial constraints,

"No it doesn’t. We’ve also had renewed interest from some publishing partners, for whom the more complex and costly game was something of a challenge for them, that this is what they were hoping we would provide and renewed their interest."

Even though the 2020 release is so far off, Nightdive shared that an Unreal Engine gameplay demo of the System Shock remake will be released to Kickstarter backers in early April. You can view the original Unity demo here to get an idea of what the new one will look like.
