Heute wurde auf der Übersichtsseite von Age of Empires Online geleaked, dass der gesamte Games for Windows Live (GFWL) Service am 01.07.2012 eingestellt wird. Bereits vor einigen Tagen war bekanntgegeben worden, dass der GFWL Marktplatz Ende diesen Monats schließen wird.

Das bedeutet auch, dass es keine Updates mehr geben wird und es nicht mehr möglich sein wird Online zu spielen oder Erfolge freizuschalten.

Betroffene Spiele sind u.a. Fallout 3, Batman (Arkham Asylum und Arkham City), GTA IV und Dark Souls.

"Microsoft continues to support the Games for Windows Live platform," a Microsoft spokesperson said. "You can continue to enjoy previously purchased games and downloadable content in your catalogue by downloading them through the Games for Windows Live client. Although purchase functionality will be discontinued through this marketplace, the Games for Windows Live service will continue to operate as usual."

Solange keine expliziten Spiele à la Sim City – die zwingend eine "Internetz"-Verbindung voraussetzen – betroffen sind, ist mir das eigentlich ziemlich egal. Der Service war doch obsolet und hat mich persönlich bei AAA ohnehin nur genervt.

bzw. kann man bei letzterem überhaupt noch ohne Umwege sichern, wenn Windows Live nicht mehr verfügbar ist?
 
Und die GFWL Spiele werden dann wohle alle nimmer funktionieren.

“We are continuing to support the Games for Windows Live service,” Microsoft said in a statement to Game Informer. “As previously announced, as part of the retirement of Microsoft Points the Xbox.com PC marketplace was closed. Although customers are unable to purchase new games from the marketplace or receive title updates, they can continue to enjoy previously purchased content by downloading them through the Games for Windows Live client as usual.

Man kann erworbene Spiele also weiterhin nutzen.
