Just like with Wii there are 2 first party launch titles ‘Nintendo Land’ & ‘New Super Mario Bros. U’(Wii had ‘Zelda: Twilight Princess’ & ‘Wii Play’) and just like before, these 1st party titles are the top-selling games, with ‘Nintendo Land’ bundled within an official launch pack (see below).

Also just like before, Ubisoft have the greatest number of launch titles [...]Ubisoft can again claim to have the best-performing 3rd party launch title[...] ‘Zombi U’ was sold solus and also as a flagship title within the Premium 32GB Zombi U Pack. Indeed, the Zombi U Pack accounted for 30% of Wii U hardware for week 1. This, coupled to the 60% share of the Premium 32GB Nintendo Land Pack means that only 10% of week 1 Wii U customers opted for the Wii U 8GB Basic Pack.

Nintendo’s Wii U console sold around 40,000 units in its first 48 hours on sale in the UK, MCV understands.

Retail sources suggest that effectively amounts to a complete sellout on the UK High Street. Stock is continuing to filter through to retail at a trickle but abundant supplies are not expected until the New Year.

[...] MCV understands that the console has enjoyed a software attach rate in excess of 2:1.

The figures were arrived at through a combination of feedback from retailers and software sales data passed on by trade sources. Using this MCV was able to extrapolate estimated sales based on the previously confirmed Wii U bundle market shares.

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter deemed the November sales results -- a record 12 months of declines -- as "worse than I expected."

The culprit, he says, was Wii U hardware sales, which came in about $50 million below expected, and sales of Nintendo handhelds, the DS and 3DS. "Wii U hardware was sold out, we checked, so it's a supply issue," he says. But Wii U software sales "was abysmal, only Super Mario sold any meaningful units."

NPD analyst Liam Callahan noted that fewer games were released in November, compared to November 2011. However, the top five games had 5% more sales, unit-wise, than the top five from 2011.

"These new titles are holding their own and generating the same number of dollars per title on average," he said. "Unfortunately, declines this month stemmed from softer sales from catalog titles, which launched outside of this month, with dollar sales down 11 percent, collectively."

Other optimistic points: November's 11% overall decline was the smallest year-over-year decrease in 2012. "This is a sign of momentum going into the December holiday period," Callahan says.

And Wii U sales generated 21% more revenue than the Wii launch in November 2006, he said. "With an average price 35% higher for the Wii U at launch, compared to the Wii, this is an example of how consumers are willing to come out and spend when they see the value of the product."

Wii U: Following its launch on Nov. 18 and with only seven days of sales captured in the data, Wii U sold more than 425,000 units, nearly matching the Wii system’s first-week total of 475,000. On the software front, New Super Mario Bros. U sold more than 243,000 units, an attach rate of nearly 60 percent.

Nintendo 3DS: The platform kicked off its second holiday season by selling nearly 540,000 units and has now sold nearly 6.5 million units life to date. Additionally, Mario Kart 7 became the second Nintendo 3DS game to cross 2 million units sold in the U.S.

Wii: In its seventh November, Wii sold 420,000 units and has now sold more than 40 million units in the United States alone.

Nintendo DS: In its 97th month overall, Nintendo DS sold more than 370,000 units and will cross 53 million units sold life to date in the next few days.

Xbox 360 sold 1.26 million units in November, maintaining the number-one console spot in the U.S. for the 23rd consecutive month.
Total retail spend on the Xbox 360 platform in November (hardware, software and accessories) reached $1.2 billion, the most for any console in the U.S.
During the month of November, Xbox 360 held four of the top 10 console game titles including: “Halo 4,” “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2,” “Assassin’s Creed 3,” and “NFL Madden 13.”

As for Resident Evil 6, Capcom said this morning it is unlikely to sell as many copies as the Japanese publisher had hoped.

“Sales... were initially strong but subsequently weakened,” Capcom said. “As a result, sales for this title are certain to fall short of the plan.”

Last month Capcom said Resident Evil 6 had been successful “to some degree” in response to disappointing review scores.

Prior to that Capcom revised down its units shipped expectations for Resi 6 from seven million to six million. This decision was based on a “comprehensive decision that reflects a variety of factors and risks at this time”.

“We believe that prospects are good for reaching our goal of six million units. We are confident because of the approaching overseas Christmas and New Year selling season, past sales of titles in this series, and for other reasons.”

It seems Capcom no longer believes Resident Evil 6's prospects of reaching that goal are good.
