Alan Wake hits 2 million, confirms Remedy
Alan Wake has hit 2 million units since its 2010 Xbox 360 launch and its recent PC release, Remedy franchise boss Oskari Hakkinen has confirmed to CVG.
The sales numbers come after the release of the PC version of the game, long in the making since the game’s announcement, as well as the release of Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.
“We’ve moved over two million copies – that’s including PC,” Hakkinen said in an interview with the site. “So after a slow start it’s turning into something really positive. It’s definitely had legs. I think narrative experiences just have a tendency for that.”
He added the series is now similar to a “a cult classic,” making similar remarks to those he made in a VG247 interview ahead of the release of the PC version on Steam last month.
Hakkinen continued: “After Max Payne we could’ve literally gone, the whole team, and sat on a beach and sipped cocktails for quite some time. It’s no secret that the Max Payne franchise was sold for $45 million. That put us in a really promising situation, but at the same time our hearts are in making video games and not in sipping cocktails on the beach.”
When asked if it could sell the Wake IP to other publisher, he said it’d ” be fun, yeah, but Alan Wake is close to our hearts.”
