Reflections on finishing Tri-Ace's latest (and most misunderstood) RPG.
When I guested on episode 12 of Active Time Babble many moons ago, I was in the midst of playing Resonance of Fate for my then-upcoming review. Since the game was released as part of Sega's Horribly Unplanned March 2010 Retail Onslaught, I had to put aside Final Fantasy XIII for the sake of keeping my six-figure freelancing salary intact -- for the record, I'm counting numbers that follow the decimal point as part of those six figures. If you happened to read my review, then you'd know Resonance of Fate can be considered the polar opposite of Final Fantasy XIII; the latter offers a slow, smooth path through highly-refined mechanics, while the former contains a mish-mash of unbalanced systems from the outset with only a hint of guidance.
