NEWS [TGS] Sony Playstation Pressekonferenz

There is an official Sony mounting bracket for connecting an external harddrive. Is that bundled with the PS3 or is it sold separately?

Fergal Gara: That's sold separately. If you buy the PlayStation disc drive for an upgrade you get the caddie, but the caddie will be sold separately and it's pretty cheap and cheerful. So you could for example decide 500GB is not nearly big enough for me, I want two terabytes. You could decide that and you could go and buy the Sony caddie and a two or one terabyte drive from another manufacturer and then you've got yourself not a 12GB but a 2000GB device.

Das war allerdings zu erwarten :ugly:

Bitte was? :skep:

while quiet during front-end navigation and media playback, it's definitely not silent. Fan whirr is mostly a non-issue in a living room environment, but at close quarters it is definitely noticeable. Spinning up a Blu-ray game is more of the same - audible, but not unduly annoying. On our unit at least, drive noise seemed to be increased over our in-house launch PS3 units. Increased noise from the drive on the latest model is to be expected bearing in mind that the disc is now behind a thin piece of plastic as opposed to running inside an enclosed unit.
