PC Nether survival MMO

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM PHOSPHOR GAMES DIRECTOR
A statement from Director at Phosphor Games and Nether. https://forums.playnether.com/showthread.php?405-Nether-Server-Issues

"I'm Chip Sineni, the Director of Phosphor and I wanted to take a minute to thank and update everyone on what's going on with Nether. We are VERY VERY sorry with how the launch has been going , and we'd like to explain what's happened and tell you how we're going to make it right.

Nether is our first game we've released through Steam. We knew we had something special in Nether, but we never expected a response like we've gotten. It kills us that we spent so many nights and weekends making this game, and you all aren't playing the game.

Where We Are
Many, many thousands of you are trying to play the game all at once. It is problem that even our best-case infrastructure launch plans didn't take into account this much load. Our back-end partners have been working for 36 hours straight to keep systems online and things are getting better, but too slowly for those of you wanting to play.

Most of the account linking issues have been cleared, and we're opening up batches of game servers again to get people online and playing. Through the rest of today and into tomorrow we're going to keep putting more servers online and scaling things up. Our customer support staff are working to resolve as many of your issues as they can.

What We're Going to Do
- Fix it. And keep improving it, since we promised you one of the best player experiences in the genre.
- Everyone who bought on playnether.com before 10/29/2013 is going to receive 20 extra Gold in their account.
- Anyone who bought after 10/29/2013 and until 11/4/2013 ob both playnether.com and Steam are going to receive 10 extra Gold in their account.

Our Most Sincere Thanks
Seriously, thank you for supporting us. We really want to make the best game we can. We're 100% committed to making Nether amazing and will continue to pour everything we have into adding new features and content the community is requesting.

See you online.

Servers : DOWN
When the title says DOWN - Current servers are down and we are addressing the issue.
When the title says UP - Current servers are up.
This is just for quick reference so players can see when servers are up or down.

Kleiner Einblick:

I've played about 5 hours. My impressions as follows.
I was extremely excited when I recieved a text saying Nether came out early on Steam. I came home, installed it, and logged in. I luckily avoided the sync error so many players had.

The character selection screen brought up a few things right away. I noticed the skill system, the levels, and the character itself. The look of the character wasnt bad, and you are able to choose from quite a few clothing variations at start. I also knew from youtube and streams that you lose all skill progression and leveling when you die. I learned very soon that you do not lose gold, and only lose a small percentage of your ingame cash, which I greatly appreciated.

As far as exploring the world:

I immediately began crouching around and proning where necessary as I would to survive if it were real life. crouching and proning you are very easily able to approach the Nether, but once you take the first swing is where it gets to be very interesting. They are tough. And guns only make more of them come. In my first encounter with a nether I was caught offguard and lost about half of my health. About 10-15 minutes later I found a gun (Loot rates will be changing I think). I came in contact witha player after a while and killed him before he was able to finish me off (With my last bullet, luckily). When you get below 100-ish health it becomes very difficult to survive with minimal hearing, you need to move quick to get medical supplies, but still be cautious.

I have died numerous times. Some play players others by Nether. I have yet to be extremely angry from dying, because I enjoy the initial search for supplies and the caution that comes with it so much. I have found it fairly easy to manage player encounters. If I am clearly better off, I ask if they have anything I need, if they pull a gun I shoot, and if they dont I let them go. If I'm worse off or even matched it tends to go the same way with role reversal. I have been shot on sight, and other times I have teamed up with a random person I never met beccause we knew we'd be better off as a team. This is far from a KOS mentality game, and it will only become that way if you bite in and start doing the same.

As far as the visuals and ambience. It is great. The graphics of the world are up there with some of todays top games. The style for those that don't know is very similar to The Last of Us in the sense of overgrown foliage and destroyed buildings/cars. It looks great and is very easy to become immersed in.

I honestly have yet to be dissapointed with this game. Some loot is bugged and cant be picked up, the safezone campers sometimes do exist and are a problem, but overall this is a great game.

If you aren't able to play I have a few things to suggest/say. Try to think about the fact that it is a beta. A lot of you don't like to hear that, but it's true. Beta is a testing stage. Developers, especially smaller ones can't test a game at launch scale. It is impossible with the resources and funding they have. This is their test. I'm sure they exhausted their resources before release, but it just wasn't enough. Most of these devs got little to no sleep last night trying to fix this game for in some cases some of the most disrespectful commenters I've seen since the GTAOnline blowout. (Not saying all of you have been) They have been making a lot of progress for you and probably will continue to. Nobody hate a problem launch more than the people who spent years making a game for others to enjoy. Just give them time to fix everything and enjoy the game when it straightens out. I know I will. Hope to see some of you in the world of Nether. Good Luck!
