Nintendo Everything (thumbs up):
Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is an inherently niche game, one that has an equal chance of delighting and destroying its players. Anyone who enjoys brutal action games will find plenty to love in Capcom’s revival, as the satisfaction of overcoming its nihilistic challenges remains just as gratifying as ever. However, audiences looking for a more modern, less punishing experience will be left with their trousers down. Its addition of new difficulty modes and powerful abilities certainly helps make the game more accessible, but overall, Resurrection remains a prohibitively tough title for all but the most committed players. If you’re looking for some tightly-designed agony in the form of a platformer, though, you’re in for a ghoulish treat with Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection.

CBR (no score):
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is sure to be a delight for fans of previous entries and those looking to test their gaming mettle against insurmountable challenges. For players looking to jump into the series with this game, it's sure to frustrate some and demoralize others. There's no doubt that Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection recaptures the brutal struggle its renown for delivering, but it lacks the refinement that's come to be expected with modern, challenging games. The additions found in the game are a step in the right direction, but there's not enough to make it accessible for everyone. It's less of an impression that the title is too difficult and more of a feeling that difficulty is imposed by limiting how players can react to threats. There are certainly players looking for a classic and retro experience; they'll have a great deal of fun with this title, but it may feel like Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is too anchored to the past for everyone else.

IndieWire (C-):
There’s the occasional diverging path and a handful of unlockables to round things out, but “Resurrection” just feels threadbare compared to games that have been pushing side-scrolling to incredible new places in recent years. “Celeste” gave players few tools to work with but more than made up for it via smart level design and an affecting story; “Ori and the Will of the Wisps” aptly meshed freedom of movement with rewarding combat. Take away its thin veneer of nostalgia and “Resurrection” is just another platformer — one that can never jump high enough to reach the rest of its genre.

Game Informer (9/10):
Ghost 'n Goblins: Resurrection is a game of try and try again, and should you not have the chops to make it, has built in solutions to allow you to keep making progress. I didn’t think I needed another Ghost n’ Goblins game, but Capcom proved me wrong, and now I want more.

Noisy Pixel (9/10):
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection feels like a major reboot of a classic franchise in every way, reintroducing a celebrated style of action platforming and infusing it with new ideas. It's a revitalization and realization of the vision behind the original, designed to be one of the toughest games you will ever experience, but now with plenty of intuitive features and options that allow you to shape your experience. This happens to be the most complete and feature-packed rendition of Ghosts 'n Goblins imaginable and has something for everyone to enjoy.

Nintenderos (9/10, review in Spanish):
Ghosts' n Goblins Resurrection is a dream come true for any fan of the saga. It collects all the best of its previous games and adds new features to offer a perfect proposal for any player, although it is still very challenging.

33bits (90/100, review in Spanish):
Ghosts' n Goblins Resurrection is the reimagining of the classics Ghosts' n Goblins and Ghouls' n Ghosts. It comes to us after 15 years without enjoying the adventures of Sir Arthur and it does so in the best possible way, with a classic adventure of devilish difficulty that includes enough news to satisfy both connoisseurs of the original titles and users that they approach him for the first time. So it is a pleasure that Capcom recovers its classic sagas.

Hobby Consolas (88/100, review in Spanish):
Having Master Fujiwara back, even if it's briefly, is a real treat. And enjoying a new Ghosts' N Goblins, with superfab 2D aesthetics and mechanics, it's simply a miracle. Just hoping it doesn't take another 15 years to see Sir Arthur in action again.

The Games Machine (8.7/10, review in Italian):
Tokuro Fujiwara strikes again by taking Ghosts 'n Goblins back to its roots. As difficult as it gets and as inventive as it gets, this is a return in style for Arthur fans.

Nintendo Enthusiast (8.5/10):
If you're looking for a soul-crushingly difficult platformer, look no farther than Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection. It retains a lot of what made the original such a classic, while also updating it with some more modern mechanics. Despite a few areas that felt a little unfair, with patience, you should be able to complete a single run within a few hours, allowing the game to never feel like it overstays its welcome, even after completing it three times over a single weekend. Whether you're a newcomer to the franchise or a long-time veteran, Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is one hauntingly good time.

SpazioGames (8.2/10, review in Italian):
Just like with the recent Resident Evil remakes, Capcom nails it once again, and Sir Arthur gets the treatment he deserves after 35 years of service. This is as difficult as the player wants it to be, and so newcomers are welcome, and should not miss this gem of an action platformer.

IGN (8/10, video):
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is an old-school action platformer that’s not too cruel to compromise, allowing you to fine tune its challenge level relative to your individual skill and tolerance for pain. Its seven-level story mode may be slightly short, but it packs in plenty of variety and unique challenges to navigate, and bolsters its replay value with the addition of the alternate Shadow levels that unlock after your first playthrough. If Capcom had added further flexibility to Arthur’s movement and attacks – and maybe had some fun with the story – this would have been a truly sensational second coming, but regardless Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is still a supremely spirited comeback.

EGM (8/10):
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection marks the return of Capcom's brutally challenging action platformer series after a 14-year hiatus, and it's a game that hasn't forgotten the teachings or techniques of its ancestors. While it's more of a "best of" for the series than a fresh new chapter, Resurrection is both a trip down memory lane, and a new experience that'll test both longtime fans and players alike. It probably won't resurrect the Ghosts 'n Goblins franchise for a new era, but at least it reminds us that both Arthur and his enemies aren't ready for the grave quite yet.

Eurogamer Italy (8/10, review in Italian):
Capcom brings back Ghosts 'n Goblins from the grave for old and new generations of gamers, who will taste the bitter flavor of old-school demonic gameplay in several new ways.

Nintendo Life (8/10):
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is Tokuro Fujiwara’s love letter to a thirty-five-year-old series that’s famous for burying mortal men, and it’s a job done exceptionally well. By ignoring it, we risk having to wait another thirty-five years for a new entry, and, in a world where so many games have become cinematic, one-button-does-all 3D picture books, that’s an unacceptable prospect. If challenge is what you live for, toughen up, don that mental armour, and take up the mantle like a lance. If you put in the time and effort, Ghosts ’n Goblins Resurrection will see you reap the most valuable of gaming accomplishments: the prestige of victory.

Shacknews (8/10):
Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrected is an absolute monster of a game, but both a thoughtful redesign and a fully intact foundation make it one that feels glorious to tame at whatever level you play it, as well as a refreshing and colorful adventure all along the way.

Gameblog.fr (8/10, review in French):
After years of absence, Arthur is finally back. For good. Despite its release on Switch, Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is still an hardcore, ruthless and satisfying experience, thank to a clever mix of sticking to its roots and expanding its game designer. If dying a thousand times to reach the goal sounds like your kind of thing, then Arthur's great return will for sure keep you entertained, and might greatly raise your level of play.

Attack of the Fanboy (4/5):
While the gameplay itself definitely won't be for everyone, due to it being very rooted to the past, Capcom has certainly done a good job reviving what not too long ago seemed like a dead series with the very fittingly titled Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection.

Hardcore Gamer (4/5):
Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection successfully revives one of the most celebrated franchises of video game history. The developers succeeded in creating an original game that feels modern while maintaining the classic feel of the games from the ’80s and ’90s. The multiple difficulty settings was a nice touch as they make the game accessible to people who have varying desires to be challenged. Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is challenging, but it’s well enough designed where fighting to overcome the challenge is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is a worthy rebirth that earns its place next to the classic titles in the series.

Millenium (75/100, review in French):
Faithful to its ancestors, Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is a difficult and intense game that will require you to die many times in order to progress. Hordes of traps and ruthless enemies will ask you each time to find and then apply a viable strategy to make your way to the next level. All of this combined with the character's unique, even dated, handling makes it a game for an audience who knows what they're getting into. Even though the magic system, checkpoints and cooperative mode make the title more accessible than its predecessors, it still requires a great deal of patience and perseverance.

Destructoid (7.5/10):
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection isn't firing on all cylinders constantly, but when you're in the groove, on any difficulty, or even with co-op in high gear, it reminds me of why I started to like this series in the first place.

COGconnected (75/100):
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is not only a fitting tribute to a much-loved classic but it's also the rebirth of the franchise. With its punishing gameplay and brutal boss fights, even experts will find this quest a challenge. However, even with the range of accessibility options, the difficulty may deter those with a passing interest.

Everyeye.it (7.5/10, review in Italian):
An exercise in style developed by those who have a steady hand and certainly know how to shape a good genre title, enhanced by artists who have managed to impress an artistic direction capable, at times, of really piercing the Switch screen.

Fanbyte (7.5/10):
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is a modern update without sacrificing what people really liked about the originals, but that can be rough if you thought the originals were too tough. There's a lot of heart to this game, but it's ultimately for people who already know they'll love it.

Game Revolution (7/10):
Like its predecessors, Resurrection isn’t for everyone. Different difficulty levels help soften the blow, but if you’re playing on anything tougher than Paige mode, you’re going to die. A lot. Still, it’s tremendously satisfying when you finally beat a hard-as-nails boss or a tough stage, even if the sheer number of enemies and obstacles to overcome often feels unfair. This is a good-looking remake with plenty of new sights to take in, even if I’ve got a feeling that most won’t get to see them.

IGN France (7/10, review in French):
Capcom and Fujiwara are resurrecting a legendary hard series and it is a success. They found a middle ground between tradition and modernity. Ghosts and Goblins Resurrection is indeed really smooth on Switch but some enemies and platform phases are really hard and random which makes the experience sometimes unfair. It's definitely not a game for everyone.

Screen Rant (3.5/5):
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is exactly what fans of the original titles are looking for. There's nothing quite like taking on a level, learning its patterns, and triumphing over them with practice. For those without the time to replay sections, the casual difficulties will still provide an engaging and rewarding platforming experience (and Page was the mode we played most and found most enjoyable). That means there is a little bit of something here for everyone. With a title like Resurrection, there's a big promise being made to fans of the series - and more often than not, Ghost 'n Goblins Resurrection delivers on that promise.

IGN Spain (7/10, review in Spanish):
If you have a love for classic games, Ghost and Goblins Resurrection will enchant you. It is a love song, adapted to Nintendo Switch with just enough. A new visual aspect, but always remembering the unfair moments we spent with one of the most difficult and bloody sagas in the history.

Gamereactor (6/10):
Sadly, Resurrection struggles to capture what made the original titles feel so memorable. Its controls are clunky and make an already challenging more difficult, and its graphics and sound have a distinctly budget feel to them. Due to its shortcomings, I know that I'll be returning back to the originals if I have the temptation to rescue a princess in my underwear again.

Metro GameCentral (6/10):
We’d love for Ghosts ‘N Goblins to become a major franchise again but Resurrection doesn’t seem likely to facilitate that. The series has got to break its obsession with extreme difficulty for that to occur but given even the Maximo spin-offs were stupidly hard that doesn’t seem likely to happen. Not even Dark Souls is this frustrating and unfair, and while Ghosts ‘N Goblins does have the excuse of age its legacy is becoming harder to appreciate the more it refuses to change.

Gamekult (6/10, review in French):
Less inspired than Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins in its day, Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection applies the old formula with panache but without genius. Like a best-of that forgets nothing for its old fans, including stages and bosses, this new episode offers a full-bodied challenge that has matured in the old barrels. Clearly, you'll die over and over again, dragged along by inertia from another age, but the game makes enough concessions (co-op mode, skill tree, infinite lives, dosage of checkpoints according to difficulty) that nothing is insurmountable, despite appearances. On the contrary, it's even this simple pleasure of tryharding that makes Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection a little more than a mere filler in the planning, and the dream candidate for all the speedruns to come.

Nintendo World Report (6/10):
Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is much more frustrating than fun, and it’s unfortunate because the look of the game, and the amount of replayability is quite high, with 31 in-game challenges to shoot for. A second player can even join in to assist Arthur in a few different ways. Even if it’s not impossible to finish Arthur’s quest, the way the game asks you to do so completely sucks the joy of it. Countless times I would meet a grisly end through no real fault of my own; I simply didn’t know what was coming or had essentially no time to react to oncoming danger. Compounding these necessary errors is a character that runs at a snail’s pace and jumps with the grace of a beached whale. The new and remixed soundtrack is nice but maybe not as memorable as the original’s, while the overall game performance is solid in Portable and TV mode. That said, I still find it hard to recommend Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection to anyone but the most devoted Ghosts ‘n Goblins fans; for most Switch players, I suspect the design and gameplay will be too much to overcome. This feels a little like one of those “could” versus “should” scenarios. Maybe just let sleeping ghouls and ghosts lie.

GameSkinny (6/10):
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection marks a return of the classic and nearly everything about it feels entirely, painfully old-school.

GameSpot (4/10):
Of course, every moment of Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection feels like it could be someone's breaking point. That's the series' legacy: the feeling it champions. If you have a strong nostalgia for these games and whatever feelings they inspired in you, it is a faithful homage. And Capcom deserves credit, to a point, for recreating a game that can stand shoulder to shoulder with Ghosts 'n Goblins, and Ghouls 'n Ghosts, as peers in excruciating gameplay. As entertainment, though, it is an artifact of a time long-past that I'm happy to remember, rather than return to.

Capcom hat jetzt mitgeteilt, dass das Spiel auch für die PS4, Xbox One und PC (Steam) erscheinen wird. Ein Release-Termin steht jedoch noch aus.
