Remedy Entertainment discussed the experiments and research we have done in collaboration with Nvidia on the Microsoft DirectX Raytracing (DXR) API that enables straightforward access to real-time ray tracing running on development graphics hardware. Remedy is one of the few handpicked game development studios in the world chosen to work on DirectX Ray Tracing. This technology remains at research level, and as such it is far from being implemented into a video game, but it is an intriguing glimpse of things to come.
'PICA PICA' is a demo and experiment using SEED's 'Halcyon' research engine and Microsoft's new DirectX Raytracing API to do real-time GPU raytracing on Nvidia Volta GPUs. It is also a playground for our self-learning AI agents.
DirectX Raytracing is a new feature in DirectX 12 that opens the door to a new class of real-time graphics techniques for games. At GDC this year, we showed how game developers can use DirectX Raytracing to improve the quality and accuracy of real-time reflections in games.
